XC100 environmental compensator🇬🇧
Renishaw
Laser calibration checks whether a machine moves exactly where it should. The catch is that the air itself bends the laser's measurement, so a warm, humid or low-pressure workshop can skew the results. Renishaw's XC100 measures the air every two seconds and corrects the readings as it goes.
What's new
- Measures air temperature, pressure and humidity and adjusts the laser reading continuously
- Optional material temperature sensors, so results from machines at different temperatures can be compared
- Renishaw quotes a linear laser accuracy of 0.4 ppm, which is 0.4 micrometres per metre
- Works with the XL-80, XM-60 and XM-600 calibrators and CARTO software
- A central hub with a touchscreen shows the readings
Why it matters
Factories chasing tighter tolerances need to trust their measurements. Correcting for the environment automatically means fewer manual adjustments when conditions on the shop floor change. The accuracy figure is Renishaw's own.
About the company
Renishaw was founded in 1973 by Sir David McMurtry and John Deer and is based in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange. Its measurement and calibration tools help manufacturers check that machines make parts to the tolerances they promise.
